Counseling

There are many different losses we experience in the course of a lifetime ranging from life transitions to the death of a loved one.  Because each person’s loss and responses are unique, the grieving process is very personal.

Grief is a normal, appropriate reaction to loss and affects many different aspects of a person’s life.  Grief is a unique experience for each person coping with loss, and we offer an empathic presence for you to tell the story of your loss.  Our goal is to provide a safe and compassionate environment for you to explore and discover your own way to integrate loss into your life’s story.  Together, we will identify positive coping strategies to guide you through your individual grieving process.

When we experience a loss, we often are surprised by the totality of the impact on our lives and sense of self.  Loss shakes the foundation of our understanding of the world—time stops and nothing feels real.  Following loss, many people describe a holistic response that includes physical, emotional, cognitive, social, behavioral and spiritual reactions.  Grief is expressed through all these dimensions.  We do not “recover,” “get over,” or “move on” from grief.  This kind of pressure often leaves the griever feeling alone and unable to express their pain.  Each person learns how to live with loss in their own way—finding a way to integrate the loss into their lives.  Grievers need to express the reality of the loss and pain to feel truly supported and move forward with life.

Grief to Hope Counseling offers a supportive, safe environment to talk about your loss and grief experience.  Our goal is to help you find the supportive tools to feel you are able to express your grief, tell the story of your loss, and continue to move forward in life.
